  52. A while back, I picked up the December '91 issue of _Popular  
  53. Mechanics_ because its cover story on Top Secret military  
  54. aircraft caught my eye. 
  55.  
  56. Since then I've seen the article mentioned a couple of times here  
  57. on ParaNet, although I was surprised at the lack of interest  
  58. generated by those postings. 
  59.  
  60. The real value of an article such as this is that it provides  
  61. "manistream" support for the contention that "UFOs are real".  
  62. Specifically, one of the major hypotheses of ufology is getting  
  63. some acknowledgment as being correct:  the "Secret Military  
  64. Aircraft" hypothesis.  In any future televised debate with Phil  
  65. Klass, it should be emphasized that his beloved former employer,  
  66. _Aviation Week & Space Technology_ has acknowledged the reality  
  67. of ufology's "Secret Military Aircraft" hypothesis, beginning  
  68. with their 10/1/90 issue.  Although no credit has been given to  
  69. ufology for advancing our knowledge about these "state of the  
  70. art" vehicles, the popular curiosity about unidentified flying  
  71. objects is what led to the identification of these vehicles.  
  72. Both _Popular Mechanics_ and _Aviation Week_ credited "anecdotal  
  73. reports" as the major source of information on the appearance and  
  74. performance characteristics of these craft.  I was particularly  
  75. amused by this paragraph from the _Popular Mechanics_ article: 
  76.  
  77. >   The vehicles in such anecdotes fall into three categories. 
  78. > First, observers have reported several different triangular 
  79. > aircraft with wingspans ranging from roughly 60 to 160 ft. 
  80. > Second, witnesses have described a high-speed, high-altitude 
  81. > vehicle, seen only as a yellow or orange light with a related 
  82. > pulsing engine roar.  Finally, a black, silent, 
  83. > boomerang-shaped vehicle that stretches between 600 and 800 ft. 
  84. > across and performs circus-pony maneuvers at airspeeds as low 
  85. > as 20 knots.  Asked to comment, Air Force Systems Command 
  86. > referred the inquiry to a Pentagon-based public affairs 
  87. > officer, Capt. Betsy Freeman, who issued this statement:  "We 
  88. > have no aircraft matching these descriptions."

  91. Obviously, this issue is a *must* for anyone interested in  
  92. ufology and more particularly for "field investigators" since the  
  93. article has some fine illustrations (including one which  
  94. appeared in _Aviation Week_).  As "boomerang" sightings continue  
  95. we are going to have a more difficult time trying to rule out  
  96. "terrestrial origin".

  98. As an aside, I am rather suspicious about the way in which UFO  
  99. design has parallelled earthly design trends.  The older UFO  
  100. photographs and sketches (such as the McMinnville, Oregon UFO)  
  101. have an almost "art deco" look.  More recent UFOs, as  
  102. photographed in the Hudson Valley area and in Belgium have a more  
  103. "Stealth"-y, Bauhaus type of look that is so popular nowdays.

  123. on the morning of 5 December (thursday).  It will not be visible to the naked 
  124. eye, as it is very small - estimated to be about 30 meters.

  175. Boston University. He says that the Spinx's age is under heated 
  176. debate. Some professors have been defending Schoch's work, and others 
  177. have been disputing it. Thanks, whoever it was, for posting on the 
  178. 1992 Science..(etc).. conference where there will be debate.

  240. In July or August 1989 a French anthropological or archaeological journal 
  241. published or reviewed a study by a Brazilian archaeologist/anthropologist 
  242. concerning remains in northern Brazil dated by thermoluminescence to 
  243. be 300,000 years old. This came on the heels of a discovery in the Mojave 
  244. Desert, which was at the time quite controversial, concerning 270,000 year 
  245. old evidence of human habitation. I have been unable to find the journal, 
  246. as I got my information from a news periodical I should have photocopied. 
  247. It was a world news periodical I came across when opening mail at 
  248. McKelding Library in Dec'89/Jan'90. However, recently I searched through 
  249. the 1990 art and archaeology abstracts (a chance find, would you believe it?) 
  250. and found an abstract on the technique of thermoluminescent dating, by 
  251. Dr. Elisabeth Mateus and a host of others, all at the University of 
  252. Sao Paulo. The name Dr. Elisabeth Mateus rang a bell and I remembered that 
  253. the archaeologist/anthropologist whose work I was looking for was a woman 
  254. from the University of Sao Paulo. An approximate address was given as 
  255. Univ. Sao Paulo Inst. Fis. and no abbreviation key was evident anywhere in 
  256. the book. But, I can get zip information (or whatever it is in Brazil) for 
  257. the Sao Paulo, Brazil address, hopefully from the U of Maryland library. 
  258. I wrote a letter today requesting information on the finds and subsequent 
  259. debates, discussions and any followup studies, which I will send once I 
  260. get the zip. Hopefully she can get me info on both the northern Brazil and 
  261. Mojave finds.

  263.  What is interesting is that California and northern Brazil are 
  264. some of the few parts of Lemuria and Atlantis (reputedly) which exist 
  265. above water today. The Peruvian Andes and coastal Carolinas are the only 
  266. other New World parts, so it is interesting that so far, assuming thee 
  267. finds are legitimate, all two finds predating the Asian-American Bering 
  268. Strait migrations are at former portions of alleged lost continents.

  426. and energy to write a book if something on the order of GB happen to  
  427. you? I wouldn't, infact if I had what happen to me that Ed claims to

  550.  Our geological work suggests that Chephren merely restored the 
  551. Sphinx.  The deep weathering to the body of the Sphinx is not 
  552. found on well-documented Old Kingdom structures in the immediate 
  553. vicinity which are cut from the same sequence of limestones.  The 
  554. temples adjacent to the Sphinx are built of limestone coreblocks 
  555. taken from the ditch quarried out to form the body of the Sphinx. 
  556. These coreblocks are faced with Aswan granite attributed to 
  557. Chephren, but the coreblocks were already deeply weathered when 
  558. the granite facing was originally applied.  The first of several 
  559. the ancient repair campaigns to the weathered body of the Sphinx was 
  560. done with typical Old Kingdom style masonry, but the core body of 
  561. the Sphinx was already deeply weathered when this earliest repair 
  562. work was carried out.  Low-energy seismic refraction data 
  563. collected in April of 1991, and reported here for the first time, 
  564. records up to 100% deeper weathering in the original floor of the 
  565. Sphinx enclosure as compared to weathering seen in the identical 
  566. limestones in an area presumably quarried during Chephren's time 
  567. in the rear of the Sphinx enclosure.  On the basis of this kind 
  568. of geological evidence we conclude that the Sphinx and its 
  569. adjacent temples predate Chephren's reign.

  617. I am sort of confused by this idea. I agree in the theme of recurrent 
  618. form, where, for example, supercooled helium acts like two separate 
  619. interpenetrating fluids, that are independent of one another, just like 
  620. I heard a talk yesterday by an astronomer who believes the core of the 
  621. Milky Way has two separate material continuums -- matter flowing one 
  622. direction with high angular momentum, and matter flowing counterclockwise 
  623. with low angular momentum. You often find the same form, meaning, shape 
  624. on different levels of observation, or on different scales. But as for 
  625. a hierarchy that leads to 10^10, I can't see that.

  638. I like a lot of the ideas of the holographic metaphor, and I use aspects of 
  639. it in my own approach to New Age ontology (=eschatology???). But, especially 
  640. with stuff like implicate order and explicate order, and even more with 
  641. the holographic brain and Sheldrake's morphogenetic fields, I think one 
  642. is stabbing into an unexplored arena and is taking the Earth-based, 
  643. fragile approach that resembles the physics of the twentieth century. 
  644. Science constantly has to completely overhaul itself with things like 
  645. quantum theory and relativity, and now holographic order, and it never 
  646. seems to get where it needs to go. I would rather be very careful as to 
  647. what out of the holographic stuff I would support openly, because it is 
  648. likely to itself be revolutionized a number of times. There is likely to 
  649. be a lot missing, and you never know how *much* is missing. I prefer to 
  650. take physics for its language of math, force and geometry, and then add 
  651. the nearly wordless wisdom of the truth, which channelers can provide 
  652. (so long as you find good channel.) An example of this combination is 
  653. asking channelers what they think of the Missing Mass problem of the 
  654. universe. This example, however, turns out to be a bit confusing.

  668. at all to the 'final days' before the geological changes. Nor do 
  669. I believe that there were 'spiritual adepts who gave form to our 
  670. globe  through a grid system of sacred site and temples, with 
  671. Egypt as H.Q. perhaps.' Egypt's sites were erected by Atlanteans 
  672. fleeing their drowning land but they were erected for themselves, 
  673. not for the Earth as a whole.  
  674.  Perhaps the Mayan calendar has come to its end in the 
  675. coming transition, but as for any information beyond this I cannot 
  676. see any other of Arguelles interpretations being likely to be 
  677. exact or even necessarily right. The business of needing 144,000 
  678. souls to meditate on the Harmonic convergence is probably wrong, 
  679. in my opinion. Now, how I disagree on the role you attribute to 
  680. those crop circles. 
  681.  In a New Age view, crop circles have been caused by UFOs for 
  682. centuries, but a chance conglomeration of them (caused naturally by UFOs 
  683. in the process of changing density or dimension at low altitude) appeared 
  684. in one area over a short period of time, leading to the sluggish early 
  685. 1980s research. The interest was noted by the transdimensionals, who have 
  686. begun experimenting with the patterns to try to make them more and 
  687. more complex, and more and more convincing to us. The Mandelbrot 
  688. set is such a good example, and the one at Barbury. 
  689.  With these two, there are positively only two explanations to 
  690. *initially* be considered -- hoax or 'paranormal intelligence' -- be the 
  691. latter extraterrestrial, devic, 'imaginal,' transdimensional, or other. The 
  692. Barbury formation seems to have shown radiation and cell wall pit 
  693. effects*(see note below), so 'paranormal intelligence,' is proven.** Likewise, 
  694. from the cell info plus the complexity, all military-device theories have 
  695. disappeared. The Mandelbrot, (this one?) was within reason inaccessible 
  696. to hoaxters. I have said 'paranormal intelligence' because if I said UFOs, 
  697. scientists and especially skeptics would instantly think I'm saying 'just 
  698. because it isn't A and it isn't B, it must be jeepers creepers UFOs!' 
  699. But, paranormal intelligence is certainly a wide enough term and it 
  700. includes most all possible causes of Barbury Castle aside from the 
  701. eliminated hoax, natural wind/plasma/anything-you-like, and military-object 
  702. theories.***

  722. provides an ontology/cosmology that seems to prove the existence of 
  723. consciousness without having to resort to presumptions of holography, 
  724. implicate ordering, or the arrow of time. I actually prove it four 
  725. different ways, including a nothing-like-it-thought-of-before expansion 
  726. of the Anthropic Principle.
